Artist statement

Everything of which is obtainable by human perception is a “superficial layer.” The phenomenal world is shaped by created images that arise out of a common sense of the “superficial layer” in various societies.

It is my belief that recognition of the “superficial layer” is not limited to seeing a “surface” as experienced through the sense of sight, but rather extends to include phenomenon such as subjective experience.  Through the layers of the five senses, somatic senses, and emotional senses, humans are able to feel the “superficial layer” by experiencing temperatures, weights, and textures also.

The “image” is produced by the “superficial layer” arising from the experiences of human beings.

The “image” contains many layers in and of itself resulting from the crossing of one’s “image” with another’s from which a common understanding of the “images” is perceived by all as knowledge.

As the layered “image” develops strength, a reality is produced.

In recent years, however, the perception of the human being is, at times, given a transcendent existence because of technological advances such as the internet as well as globalization enabled by a developed transportation network.  Such tools have made the world’s inhabitants equal by reducing the differences between people and how the various realities are recognized.  It seems that the “image” is losing a part of itself because of these available tools.  As it happens, the “image” grows weaker resulting in an increasingly blurred lined between a fabrication and a reality.

Although a materialistic darkness was decreased by sharing or magnifying the unclear part of images universally, a mental darkness was increased by nihilistic thought created by a collapse of heterogeneous hopes or aspirations.

People are seeking a place to call their own amid the darkness.  This state, however, may not be a reality, but rather a created dream of image.  I wonder if people persist in seeking out the fabricated utopia called dreams.

The “superficial layer” composes the “image,” and the “image” composes the “superficial layer.” This cyclical occurrence dizzies us in dance with an illusory reality while also representing the human being’s ideals.

I believe that any process is a valid reality, and when approached from a place of truth, it aims to make true the ideal.
